Theory of Music
Lessons
It is strongly recommended that all music students should study the Theory and Rudiments of Music.
This entails learning about the conventions of musical notation, the ‘building blocks’ of music itself and, in the more advanced stages, a certain amount of form (musical structure) and history.
A study of elementary theory is offered as an option to all students of a practical subject (from about their second term onwards) taking up just two or three minutes of each lesson.
Alternatively, separate lessons specialising in theory may be had, especially useful for those needing to pass the obligatory Grade 5 before proceeding to the higher practical grades.
