Mozart called it
‘The King of Instruments’,
and so it is - the most magnificent musical
instrument ever devised. It is capable of playing the most majestic or rousing music
imaginable, far more powerfully than any other single instrument (leaving aside the
products of modern electronics), yet equally capable of the most delicate and expressive
of sounds - all at the command of one musician.
There can be little more exciting than being in charge of such a beast as the church organ!
Contrary to many people’s belief, it is not necessary to have any prior musical knowledge
or ability in order to embark on learning to play this wonderful and fascinating
musical instrument.
On the other hand, you may be an accomplished pianist who has been asked to play
the organ in church, and would like some guidance on organ-specific techniques such
as pedalling, the use of stops, and the specific art of accompanying hymns.
Whatever your situation, lessons can be tailor-made to suit your requirements.
“Like many organists, I am really a pianist who thought the keyboard looked similar to a piano, so of course I could play it. With guidance from Robert I learnt how to get the best sound from our organ, and he set me on the path to playing the pedals as well as the two keyboards.”
